Technology Director

Waterfall Asset Management (“Waterfall”) is a $6.5 billion diversified alternative asset manager specializing in high yield asset backed securities (“ABS”), residential mortgage loans and small balance commercial loans (“Whole Loans”). The firm manages an array of alternative investment vehicles including hedge funds, SMAs and a public REIT, Sutherland. In addition Waterfall functions as a sub advisor on 40 Act and UCITS funds. The firm employs a full time staff of 86, and affiliated portfolio companies have over 100 employees. Waterfall’s client base includes Taft-Hartley plans, pensions, endowments, foundations and family offices. 

Job Summary:

The firm is seeking a hands-on Technology Director for the Sutherland REIT and affiliated portfolio companies with loan origination experience to formulate the long-term vision and strategies for technology initiatives. The position reports to Waterfall senior leadership, working closely to ensure synergies in technology solutions and overall workflow. The ideal candidate must be a proven leader with outstanding technical and business expertise in the loan origination and servicing industry (this is critical). The candidate will lead the evaluation of current systems and processes, and recommend a long term technology vision.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Lead the vision on system architecture for Sutherland REIT
  • Coordinate implementation of approved vision
  • Understand all reporting requirements and create processes to streamline ad hoc reporting
  • Prepare progress reports for management and business
  • Work with various business units to prioritize technology initiatives based on firm-wide goals
  • Evaluate and standardize various types of technology across the REIT’s portfolio companies
  • Explore new vendor products/tools/systems/processes (both internally and externally) that can gain efficiencies that are the most cost effective and secure
  • Evaluate solutions and recommend implementations
  • Responsible for technology documentation and annual audit participation
  • Continuously expand industry and technical knowledge
  • Regularly travel 20-30% of time to portfolio companies in New Jersey and Texas

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree required with 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in Information Technology within the loan origination/servicing industry IS A MUST
  • Ability to drive technology innovation by building robust, scalable, trusted environments
  • Ability to assess, communicate and take accountability of the risks/rewards associated with technology-related investments
  • Innovative thinker; combines business savvy and technical acumen to help design software and systems
  • Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications and outsourced systems
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles
  • Proven experience in planning, organization and development
  • Ability to set and manage priorities by being forward thinking, a proven leader and innovation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal/tactical skills
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed with a strong attention to detail
